Kent Cinema, opened in 1970's, was one of the most modern movietheaters of Istanbul at the time. Kent's huge hall of 1400 seats had instantly become the favorite of the moviegoers.
By the late 1970's and 1980's, due to the political situation in the country and also due to the recession in the Turkish film industry, the cinema experienced a bad period.
In 1990, Türker İnanoğlu and his colleague İrfan Ünal, owner of Akün Film, bought the Kent Cinema. The cinema was completely renovated and re-opened with a great gala.
The first movies screened in the renovated Kent, were F.F.Coppola's "The Godfather Part III" and Sydney Pollack's "Havana" with Robert Redford.
Kent Cinemas became also the pioneer of multi-screened cinemas in Turkey, as Türker İnanoğlu first divided the cinema to three halls, and later to four halls. This was the birth of the movieplexes in Turkey.
Today, Kent Cinemas is in the service of Istanbul movielovers with its 4 modern halls, vast foyer, contemporary administration and up-to-date technology.
